Setting the Mood: 3 Romantic Holiday Must-See Movies

28 Nov

The days are shorter and the nights are colder, so it’s time to snuggle up with your sweetie in your sexiest lingerie and set the mood for a romantic night with some beloved holiday favorites on the DVD or Netflix.

Not all of the movies listed are strictly holiday themed, but they all capture the magic and romance of the season that makes us all want to hug each other a little longer and a little harder. You can even coordinate your plus size lingerie with the movies’ themes!

1) LOVE ACTUALLY – Really you can’t go wrong with this new holiday classic. A collection of holiday vignettes all culminate in a great Mariah Carey ‘All I Want for Christmas’ tribute.

Bonus? Men inexplicably love this movie, too.

Double Bonus? You get to watch Andy Lincoln before he transformed into zombie-king, Rick Grimes! This movie is such a hodgepodge, any lingerie goes – although, I think something with sparkles is in order.

You’ll shine all night long in this twinkly lingerie

2) BRIDGET JONES DIARY – So I like movies set in the UK? Seriously though, this is a curvy girl’s signature movie, and it just so happens to reach it’s climatic finale during the Christmas/New Year’s holiday.

Mark Darcy is the epitome of dreamy, probably because he was based off of Jane Austen’s Mr. Darcy, and who doesn’t love Mr. Darcy? For Bridget, I would definitely view in a pair of ‘genuinely tiny knickers’ – what we, in North America, would call underwear! Epic scene ensues.

Plus Size Panties, Knickers

3) MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS – Released in 1944, this Judy Garland family classic gave us the Christmas Carol ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ and a great story about the lives and loves of a turn-of-the century family.

With a beautiful finale that begins at a Christmas Eve ball and ends on an early Christmas morning, this is a holiday must-see.

I promise, you will become completely emotionally invested in this little family by the end.  A romantic babydoll or corset will totally set the viewing mood.

Enjoy!

Sleep Deprived?

22 Nov

Let’s play a word association game. When you hear the word ‘bedroom’, what comes to mind?

Lingerie? Romance? Sleep?

It probably depends on the day. Many people are operating on a sleep debt – meaning we get well below the 7 to 8 hours recommended by doctors.

Studies have linked sleep deprivation to heart disease, diabetes, poor memory retention, depression, and horror of all horrors – lower libido in both men and women! So after the sexy plus size lingerie comes off for the night and the lights are out, how do we ensure we are getting adequate rest?

1) Maintain a consistent sleep schedule – meaning waking and going to bed at the same time each night. Creating a pattern and rhythm for your body will help you fall asleep fast and stay asleep.

2) Increase your light exposure during the day. I love the idea of flooding your office or home with natural light. It’s not always easy to escape the dreaded track lighting in office spaces, but whenever possible use indirect and natural light to illuminate your work space. Taking a quick walk outside or eating lunch al fresco are both great ways to get a little extra sunshine!

3) Perhaps the hardest, but most important tip of all – turn off the electronics! Most of us are as addicted to our cellphones, televisions, and Ipads, but hey, the evenings shouldn’t be dominated by little blinking machines. Take the time to reconnect with your lover instead, which leads me to my final point.

4) Sex helps you sleep better! Really! One in six women reported better, deeper sleep after sex in a study done by the Journal of Women’s Health. The hormonal changes caused by sex increase our estrogen (longer REM cycles, deeper sleep), reduce cortisol (goodbye stress) and increase oxytocin (hello, feeling of well-being and relaxation.)

So, tonight get that curvy, luscious derriere into a pair of sexy, plus size underwear or your favorite lingerie and romp your way to a better night’s sleep!

When Less is More

14 Nov

I recently received an email from a good friend espousing the wonders of a new fiber lash mascara. The pictures were admittedly dramatic.

Did I need this product?

Would my eyelashes forever feel skimpy if I stuck to the same old drug store brands I rotated between?

Was it worth the investment, and did I have the time to submit to a four-step mascara process just to ensure my lashes were 300% bigger?

As women we’re addicted to getting made up. Maybe it’s like putting on a different persona. With the right hair and makeup we are more glamorous, alluring – our flaws are hidden from the world. Often times plus size women feel extra societal pressure to present a perfect face. And what goes better with a bombshell black leather corset than red hot lipstick or extra-long flutter eyelashes with the ethereal babydoll lingerie you just purchased? A smoky eye and barely-there underwear – it’s a curvy girl’s ultimate boudoir look!

At its best, makeup is fun and fanciful. But does it ever become a chore for beauty mavens?Well, if you are wearing a full face of makeup for anyone but yourself, you may want to rethink your decision.

A UK study found that both men and women actually prefer a more natural look. While a bare face didn’t score as many attractive points as some makeup, both men and women rated the women’s faces that were not wearing full “going out” makeup as more attractive than the women’s complete looks for an evening out. When interviewed, both sexes still verbalized that more makeup was better, despite choosing images to the contrary.

Think about your own romantic liaisons. Were they evenings when you were made up to the nines or did they take you by chance when your face was much more natural?

Pair this with an earlier study that showed men actually preferred curvier figures than women thought they wanted, and could it be that we are perfect in our lingerie just the way we are?

Welcome to Movember

9 Nov

What a minute… I thought it was November! Apparently, it is but, did you know that most people don’t know that November is also a month that is known as Movember!

Last month we looked at the importance of women’s health, and reviewed the pros and cons of breast self-examinations, in the blog “to bse or not to bse.” More importantly, we made women more aware of investing in their health.

“What does Movember mean?”

According to Prostatecancer.ca website:

“Movember is the month formerly known as November, where men and women across the globe join together to raise awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s mental health.”

“Men (also known as Mo Bros) sign up online at Movember.com. Starting clean-shaven on November 1st, these men donate their face for 30 days by growing and grooming the best moustache they can muster. Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for men’s health raising funds and awareness along the way. Women (also known as Mo Sistas) play a key supporting role by signing up as team captains, recruiting Mo Bros, helping to raise funds, and encouraging the men in their life to take action when it comes to their health.”
“Mo growth is seen around the globe each November. In 2014, official campaigns will be held in 21 countries across five continents.”

“What is prostate cancer?

“Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to affect Canadian men. One in eight men will be diagnosed with the disease in their lifetime.”

“Prostate cancer can be slow-growing and some men who develop prostate cancer may live many years without ever having the cancer detected. It is important to get screened regularly so that if you do develop prostate cancer, the appropriate action can be taken. A significant proportion of prostate cancers, if untreated, may have serious consequences.”

“What is testicular cancer?

According to Movember.com website:

“Testicular cancer starts as an abnormal growth or tumour that develops in one or both testicles. The testicles are part of the male reproductive system and are responsible for the production of male hormones (mostly testosterone) and sperm.”

So, we now know what Movember means.
Now what?

With this information, we can share it with the men in our lives, and make them aware of the importance of investing their health too!

To start, (which maybe something that we as women may have to get use to), they can grow moustache to raise funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s mental health.

However, the one thing that stands out is, it will give our men the opportunity to invest in their own health. If they’ve never had proper physical examination by a physician, this is the month to start. Encourage them to go and see their family physician and have a complete physical exam. Early detection can save a life! They just need that encouragement from you.

Let’s be proactive and take the time out for good health! Don’t forget, not only is November a month of remembrance, it’s Movember!

The Perfect Body… Wait, What?

8 Nov The Perfect Body

So everyone freaking out over Meghan Trainor’s “skinny shaming” can simmer down.

It seems the fashion retailers continue to visually and verbally exalt those who just eat and eat and eat and can’t help their “skinny genes” – more on that another time. Whatever.

The latest controversy between fashion and women involves a new campaign recently launched by Victoria’s Secret. Flanked by a bevy of lingerie-clad genetically skinny (also airbrushed) models, the slogan read, “The Perfect ‘Body’.”

Outrage ensued.

A petition was launched, a twitter campaign, and a rival lingerie company launched a similar add, except it featured a variety of women’s sizes.

It was interesting to read some of the comments from people. It ranged from complete support for the petition to those men who claimed that they felt to puke when they saw the bottom photo. The comment that made me truly reflect is the one that said:

“I wonder which women are healthier,
and will live longer”.

You simply cannot provide an answer to that question by looking at either the top or bottom photo. At the end of the day, Big Beautiful Wellness says it best:

“Good Health is the ULTIMATE GOAL”
“Body size is not a true indication of Health.”

Amidst the firestorm of negative publicity, Victoria’s Secret seems to have listened, albeit grudgingly, and changed the slogan to something less offensive in recent days.

The VS squad has yet to make a formal statement in regards to the original campaign or address the fact that they changed the slogan at all. It seems to be a case of, “You don’t own me! But please, um still buy our products?”

Thankfully, you have a plus size lingerie home right here at FranBlass! We want you to embrace your beautiful curves and have fun doing it!

Whether you’re shopping for shape enhancing corsets, romantic babydoll nighties or simply new underwear to make you feel sexy as you go through your day, remember your body is your own fashion canvas.

So at the end of the day Meghan Trainor is right-, “It is all about that bass”! For those who are not too familiar with Meghan Trainor, this translates to, ‘It’s all about that BOOTY’!

Dinner is Served … in the Bedroom!

3 Nov

Everyone has heard of breakfast in bed, but what about dinner in bed wearing your favorite lingerie? Most of the foods considered to be aphrodisiacs make much better evening eats than morning. Not to mention, most ladies that wear a sexy underwear and corset set or sheer babydoll to bed are going to wake up in the AM without it!

Ladies with curves understand good food, and despite the typical American love/hate relationship with edibles, food is inherently sensual and romantic when done right.

If you are looking for inspiration, start with the staples of the Mediterranean diet – there’s a reason these cultures have a history of romance! Figs, garlic ( yup, you read that right), almonds, asparagus, pomegranates, honey, strawberries, and CHOCOLATE are all ancient workhorses in the bedroom. But you’re not limited to these picks.

The only requirement is moderation, a too-full tummy will put you right to sleep. Whether you keep it simple with strawberries and chocolate or go full-out with an aphrodisiac-laden sampler, remember the real “dessert” comes after you eat.

So surprise your love with a romantic evening that includes a new hot plus size lingerie item (lots of new goodies to choose from) and an aphrodisiac-rich dinner in bed, and you’re sure to wake up smiling!
