Sleep Deprived?

Let’s play a word association game. When you hear the word ‘bedroom’, what comes to mind?

Lingerie? Romance? Sleep?

It probably depends on the day. Many people are operating on a sleep debt – meaning we get well below the 7 to 8 hours recommended by doctors.

Studies have linked sleep deprivation to heart disease, diabetes, poor memory retention, depression, and horror of all horrors – lower libido in both men and women! So after the sexy plus size lingerie comes off for the night and the lights are out, how do we ensure we are getting adequate rest?

1) Maintain a consistent sleep schedule – meaning waking and going to bed at the same time each night. Creating a pattern and rhythm for your body will help you fall asleep fast and stay asleep.

2) Increase your light exposure during the day. I love the idea of flooding your office or home with natural light. It’s not always easy to escape the dreaded track lighting in office spaces, but whenever possible use indirect and natural light to illuminate your work space. Taking a quick walk outside or eating lunch al fresco are both great ways to get a little extra sunshine!

3) Perhaps the hardest, but most important tip of all – turn off the electronics! Most of us are as addicted to our cellphones, televisions, and Ipads, but hey, the evenings shouldn’t be dominated by little blinking machines. Take the time to reconnect with your lover instead, which leads me to my final point.

4) Sex helps you sleep better! Really! One in six women reported better, deeper sleep after sex in a study done by the Journal of Women’s Health. The hormonal changes caused by sex increase our estrogen (longer REM cycles, deeper sleep), reduce cortisol (goodbye stress) and increase oxytocin (hello, feeling of well-being and relaxation.)

So, tonight get that curvy, luscious derriere into a pair of sexy, plus size underwear or your favorite lingerie and romp your way to a better night’s sleep!
