Essential Oils for Wellness

29 Apr Essential Oils for Wellness

There’s nothing sexy about feeling yucky, and it’s hard to feel confident when your body is tired, drained, and bloated. So don’t let all your plus size lingerie go to waste because you have a headache at the end of the day!

If you’re looking to improve your overall wellness, essential oils promise to transform your health without the side effects of prescription or over –the-counter drugs. So let’s take a peek at some of the top essential oils for health and wellness.

Essential oils aren’t new – in fact they have a long history of healing and romantic properties before the advent of modern medicine.

Cinnamon Bark Oil

It’s not just for baking! Cinnamon is a powerful anti -inflammatory and antiviral in its bark form. It also boosts brain activity and helps you fight off fatigue. Great as a digestive aid or to ward off traveler’s diarrhea, take a few drops of cinnamon bark oil a day with a glass of water. You can also use cinnamon in a sachet to scent your lingerie and underwear drawer, as it claims to have aphrodisiac properties as well.

Navigating a Yoga Class: Tips for Curvy Beauties Ready to Get Their “Om” On

5 Apr

Yoga is universally recognized for its health benefits. Combining challenging stretches with muscle strengthening moves and balance poses helps reduce stress and gives you a full body workout.

Yoga is wonderfully accessible to all shapes and sizes and ages because it is low impact and encourages people to make each class (and pose) their own. Navigating a yoga class can be a little intimidating if you are new to the practice.

Here are some tips to help you get your “Om” on!

1) Bring your own yoga mat

Depending on where you practice, mats may or may not be provided so this might be a non-issue, but making sure you have a mat that is thick enough to take pressure off your joints while you are executing a move.  If you carry more weight on your frame, a thin mat just won’t cut it. Sometimes pose modifications involve putting your knees down, so a cushiony mat is a must.

2) Like a good corset, it might be uncomfortable, but it shouldn’t be painful.

No matter your fitness level, a good yoga class will provide challenges and probably some moves you aren’t quite ready for. Don’t push yourself to the point of pain, though. Expect to sweat and possibly curse, but if you feel muscle strain – STOP! It is not worth throwing your back out. Listen to your body. That being said, continue to challenge your body each session.

3) Which takes us to modifications – use them if you need them.

There’s no shame in a modification! A good yoga class will provide modifications for difficult moves so you can participate safely and slowly work towards a goal. Some folks (for a variety of reasons) will never, ever do a “Bird Pose”, and that’s ok- because in yoga it’s all about the journey.

4) Invest in some comfortable and cute yoga clothes.

Looking good not only provides motivation – hello, new plus size lingerie and an increase in bedroom shenanigans – it will also ensure that you have the proper support and comfortable coverage when executing moves. No one wants a t-shirt to flop over her head when she’s in downward dog! And a good sports bra in yoga class is as essential as sexy underwear on your anniversary!

5) Don’t leave early

Stay for Corpse Pose – really! This is your time to relax, rest, and re-center yourself while basking in your post-workout glow. And don’t worry, there’s not really an

Health and Wellness – Blasting the Winter Blues

11 Feb Seasonal Affective Disorder

It’s often said that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. However, the last weeks of winter can often be the hardest for women, who are much more likely than men to suffer from SAD – Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Seasonal Affective Disorder occurs during the winter months when gray, short days lead to a drop in serotonin production. These deficits increase irritability, anxiety, depression, and also increase hunger and sleepiness.

So how do you combat the winter blues while waiting for Spring?  Here are a few tips to increase serotonin and boost your mood.

1) Light therapy – Since SAD is triggered by a lack of light, increasing your indoor light to around 300 watts for at least 30 minutes is a sure fire way to get the serotonin flowing. Special lights are relatively inexpensive, so save the candlelight dinners for the warmer months and crank up the lights!

2) Exercise – SAD is an energy sapper, but if you can fight through the lethargy and put an exercise plan in place and stick to it, the increase in serotonin that results will make it easier to keep moving. Since SAD increases the appetite, it’s especially important to combat emotional eating with a good calorie burn.

3) Get intimate – Studies show that regular sex increases mood due to the release of oxytocin at orgasm and also boosts your immune system. What better reason to get romantic and slip into your latest plus size lingerie order? Warm up the cold winter nights with a sexy little babydoll, naughty corset, or lacy underwear and reap the rewards!

4) Schedule time to socialize – Lingerie and sexy times aren’t the only way to boost your mood. Positive interaction with friends and family are also a great way to increase feel good chemicals and combat the winter blues.

So here’s to happy winter days and even hotter winter nights!

DIY Beauty Secrets

13 Dec

We often get caught up in doing for other people and forget to take care of ourselves. Pampering yourself doesn’t require a great amount of time or money.  All you have to do is indulge in at-home beauty treatments with ingredients you probably already have in the cupboard or medicine cabinet.

This holiday season, create a personal glow that will rival the candles in the window and the sparkles on your corset!

1)  Lemon-Sugar Face and Body Scrub

For a fast and effective scrub:

  • Combine 2 to 3 cups of white sugar with ½ cup coconut, jojoba, or olive oil.
  • Add in two to three teaspoons of lemon juice and a teaspoon of orange or lemon zest.
  • Mix all the ingredients until combined.
  • Work the scrub into the skin in a circular motion, let rest for five minutes, and then rinse clean.

Your love is sure to appreciate your super smooth skin and natural glow when you model your plus size lingerie for a romantic evening. You can store the scrub in a mason jar, and with a little twine or ribbon, it also makes a great gift!

2)  Teeth Whitening (without the harmful enamel damaging chemicals!)

You are never fully dressed without a smile, right? So it follows that a great pair of sexy underwear or babydoll are best accessorized with a bright smile!

Simply mix together:

  • capful of hydrogen peroxide
  • a capful of baking soda, and
  • a pinch of pink Himalayan salt
  • apply to teeth with a Q-tip.
Let sit for a few minutes for two to three days in a row every other month or so, and you are on your way to a brand new smile to compliment your curvy physique.

3)  Coconut Oil Hair Mask

  • Warm up two to three tablespoons of coconut oil and work into your hair from roots to tips.
  • Use a shower cap or cotton fabric to wrap your hair against your head.
  • Leave it overnight.
  • Wash out oil in the morning with regular shampoo, and voila – the best hair day ever!

Holiday Fashion for Your Next Get Together

5 Dec

It’s the time of year when we are asked to both indulge in delectable holiday treats and still manage to fit in spectacular outfits for holiday parties, soirees, dinners, and family events.

So, which styles are definite friends of the plus size figure?

Let’s explore the options…

1) The Little Black Dress – At the holidays, you just can’t go wrong in a LBD. The styles available range from a basic A-line cut, to peplum, or something more body conscious and fitted. Black shift dresses are still on trend, but they just don’t scream holiday party to me. Go for a sexy fitted look or a fun flare that you can dress up with sparkly high heels.

2) Speaking of sparkles, sequins are a great way to go from ordinary to holiday. The key is not to go overboard and end up looking like a runaway Miss America contestant.

Look for clothing with clean crisp lines that incorporate sequins tastefully. An embellished tunic with black leggings and knee high boots or a fitted sequined miniskirt with a solid top are all great options for working the bling for less than a diamond ring!

3) Say yes to Red. Just because you’re not a size two, doesn’t mean you are indentured to the LBD, as much as I love it.

Say yes to color this season, specifically red. Red flatters a variety of hair colors and skin tones and gives a curvy figure bombshell status, but we are usually too timid to wear it outside of the bedroom.

Dare to shine brightly in red while you’re rocking around the Christmas tree at the next holiday party.

And remember, what you are wearing underneath is just as critical to your holiday fun as the right outfit.

Sexy underwear and plus size lingerie or a pushup, waist-defining corset will enhance your silhouette and give you a naughty little secret to share with someone special later!

Setting the Mood: 3 Romantic Holiday Must-See Movies

28 Nov

The days are shorter and the nights are colder, so it’s time to snuggle up with your sweetie in your sexiest lingerie and set the mood for a romantic night with some beloved holiday favorites on the DVD or Netflix.

Not all of the movies listed are strictly holiday themed, but they all capture the magic and romance of the season that makes us all want to hug each other a little longer and a little harder. You can even coordinate your plus size lingerie with the movies’ themes!

1) LOVE ACTUALLY – Really you can’t go wrong with this new holiday classic. A collection of holiday vignettes all culminate in a great Mariah Carey ‘All I Want for Christmas’ tribute.

Bonus? Men inexplicably love this movie, too.

Double Bonus? You get to watch Andy Lincoln before he transformed into zombie-king, Rick Grimes! This movie is such a hodgepodge, any lingerie goes – although, I think something with sparkles is in order.

You’ll shine all night long in this twinkly lingerie

2) BRIDGET JONES DIARY – So I like movies set in the UK? Seriously though, this is a curvy girl’s signature movie, and it just so happens to reach it’s climatic finale during the Christmas/New Year’s holiday.

Mark Darcy is the epitome of dreamy, probably because he was based off of Jane Austen’s Mr. Darcy, and who doesn’t love Mr. Darcy? For Bridget, I would definitely view in a pair of ‘genuinely tiny knickers’ – what we, in North America, would call underwear! Epic scene ensues.

Plus Size Panties, Knickers

3) MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS – Released in 1944, this Judy Garland family classic gave us the Christmas Carol ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ and a great story about the lives and loves of a turn-of-the century family.

With a beautiful finale that begins at a Christmas Eve ball and ends on an early Christmas morning, this is a holiday must-see.

I promise, you will become completely emotionally invested in this little family by the end.  A romantic babydoll or corset will totally set the viewing mood.

Enjoy!

Sleep Deprived?

22 Nov

Let’s play a word association game. When you hear the word ‘bedroom’, what comes to mind?

Lingerie? Romance? Sleep?

It probably depends on the day. Many people are operating on a sleep debt – meaning we get well below the 7 to 8 hours recommended by doctors.

Studies have linked sleep deprivation to heart disease, diabetes, poor memory retention, depression, and horror of all horrors – lower libido in both men and women! So after the sexy plus size lingerie comes off for the night and the lights are out, how do we ensure we are getting adequate rest?

1) Maintain a consistent sleep schedule – meaning waking and going to bed at the same time each night. Creating a pattern and rhythm for your body will help you fall asleep fast and stay asleep.

2) Increase your light exposure during the day. I love the idea of flooding your office or home with natural light. It’s not always easy to escape the dreaded track lighting in office spaces, but whenever possible use indirect and natural light to illuminate your work space. Taking a quick walk outside or eating lunch al fresco are both great ways to get a little extra sunshine!

3) Perhaps the hardest, but most important tip of all – turn off the electronics! Most of us are as addicted to our cellphones, televisions, and Ipads, but hey, the evenings shouldn’t be dominated by little blinking machines. Take the time to reconnect with your lover instead, which leads me to my final point.

4) Sex helps you sleep better! Really! One in six women reported better, deeper sleep after sex in a study done by the Journal of Women’s Health. The hormonal changes caused by sex increase our estrogen (longer REM cycles, deeper sleep), reduce cortisol (goodbye stress) and increase oxytocin (hello, feeling of well-being and relaxation.)

So, tonight get that curvy, luscious derriere into a pair of sexy, plus size underwear or your favorite lingerie and romp your way to a better night’s sleep!
